I absolutely loved this. The way you connected Da Vinci’s mechanical knight, from his scattered sketches to Rosheim’s working model, beautifully bridged history and innovation.

Given your appreciation for futuristic concepts, I’d be really interested to hear your thoughts on an app I’m developing.

It’s designed to help users easily check up on each other. I’ve sent you the link in your inbox and would love to chat about it if you’re open to it.

Michael, what a great historical story. Almost a hundred years before Fritz Lang created (sort of) the robotrix for his movie "Metropolis."

Our Leonardo was really the best of all humankind, although that last quote doesn't really sound like one of his. As for Columbus, apparently, he was a Spanish Jew https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/ckg2049ezpko but I'm happy to leave him to Spain.

This was a great read, Michael, I always read avidly your posts about scientists and science.

Oh, this is most cool! I think Leonardo a much more enlightened genius than others since he achieved great feats, despite as you say, using paper and pencils.

Fascinating Michael! A close friend of mine — John Gaughn is a magic builder and has built many props for our shows in the past. Is also one of the worlds most renowned expert on automatons, And has rebuilt and restored many of the worlds most famous ones.

While in Monte Carlo one time, I was able to tour the famous Automata museum, which is not open to the public. You can visit it by invitation only.

Here is a video of John’s famous Antonio Divalo.
